FINANCE

Will you reimburse me for my TOEFL/IELTS tests?

A: Yes, we will pay for up to three (3) tests total, in any combination, throughout your time on scholarship. You must provide proof of payment (like your receipt or a bank print out) and your score report. We do not reimburse for any tests taken before scholarship.

Will you pay for my SAT, GED, GMAT, or tutor?

Applicable to: MoHE, Equate, PAAET, PAAET Study Leave, KPC Students, CSC. KPC Employee – contact your advisor.

A: Unfortunately, we do not pay for those tests or for tutoring.

I did not receive my salary on time. What should I do?

Applicable to: MoHE, Equate, PAAET, KPC Students. KPC Employee – contact your advisor. CSC – contact your advisor. PAAET Study Leave – contact your advisor.

A: Inform your Cultural Office advisor. Salaries are released on or before the 20th of each month, about ten (10) days before the next month begins. If you have failed to submit required documents, you will be given one month’s notice that you may be subject to salary hold. Students who are released from a hold risk receiving a late salary. Students who fail to inform us about a bank account change risk receiving a late salary.

SCHOLARSHIP

What does my scholarship pay for?

A: Your scholarship will help pay ESL or academic tuition and fees, applications, approved non-traditional credits, travel tickets and dependent benefits in most circumstances.

Your scholarship DOES NOT pay for housing, food/meal plans, parking, university fines (library overdue books, parking tickets), fees for late add/drop courses, or university provided health insurance if you fail to waive it by the deadline.

What documents do I need to give to my academic advisor?

A: At the end of each term, you must provide your official university transcripts. At the beginning of each term, you must provide your Verification of Enrollment or course schedule. Once you declare your major, you must provide your Study Plan. If you move, change your telephone number, or email address, you must inform your advisor in writing. If you change your bank account, you must inform your advisor.

What if I want to change my school, change my major, extend or suspend my scholarship, enroll in online, independent study, or community college?

Do I have to take summer courses?

Applicable to: MoHE, Equate, PAAET, PAAET Study Leave, KPC Students. KPC Employee – contact your advisor. CSC – contact your advisor.

A: You are not required to do so. However, we encourage all ESL students to stay for the summer and continue study. We encourage all academic students to reach the Ministry required credit number (27 semester or 42 quarter) by engaging in summer coursework. Enrollment in summer coursework is a guaranteed way to receive salaries for the months of July and August. You may, with permission, enroll at KU or other universities; you must contact your advisor and receive advance permission to do this.

Can I register concurrently (same term, two schools)?

A: No. Absent special circumstances and approval from the Cultural Office and possibly your sponsor, you are not permitted to have concurrent enrollment.

Can I register in Continuing Education?

A: No. Students are not permitted to engage in Continuing Education, guest student or non-degree seeking study. Coursework must be taken through approved university study.

Can I take a self-paced course or earn credit by examination?

A: No. Students may not enroll in self-paced courses or earn credits by examination. Courses must be taken within established term limits and via traditional coursework.

What is the minimum number of credits I have to take each term?

A: U.S. Immigration regulations require that you enroll in a minimum of 12 credits each academic term. Your scholarship requires that you earn a minimum of 27 semester or 42 quarter credits each academic year.

What is the minimum GPA I need to maintain?

A: Please check with your university advisor to learn any rules regarding GPA requirements, major requirements, academic probation, and suspension at your school. In order to avoid receiving an Academic Warning from the Cultural Office, you must maintain a 2.0 GPA each term. Students who receive three (3) consecutive or four (4) non-consecutive Academic Warnings are subject to dismissal from Scholarship.

How can I qualify for a ticket?

Applicable to: MoHE, Equate, PAAET, KPC Students. KPC Employee – contact your advisor. CSC – contact your advisor. PAAET Study Leave – contact your advisor.

A: You will need to submit the Ticket Request form, signed by your university. We will evaluate your eligibility according to current rules and regulations, which require a 2.0 GPA and 27/42 earned academic credits for the year preceding the ticket. Students are entitled to only one ticket per year if qualified. Students within six (6) months of graduation are not entitled to a round-trip ticket. Students who fail to request a ticket during a qualifying term will forfeit their right to receive it retroactively.

UNIVERSITY

How do I drop/add or withdraw from courses?

A: Please check with your university advisor or registrar for school instructions. Please note that you are responsible for any fees incurred for late add/drop or withdrawal. The Cultural Office expects a full refund in these cases.

How do I order my transcripts?

A: Please visit your university’s website Registrar page and seek the link. For most universities, you may order transcripts online and do not have to go in person. Remember to send official transcripts to this office at the end of each term!

How do I waive (cancel) university-provided health insurance?

Applicable to: MoHE, Equate, PAAET, PAAET Study Leave, KPC Students, CSC. KPC Employee – contact your advisor.

A: Remember to make sure you waive your insurance each term you study. Students who fail to cancel their insurance will be charged any fees as a result. Each university has different requirements for insurance waiver. Because your Cultural Office advisor does not know the terms and benefits of your insurance plan, you will need to contact the Health Office in Washington, D.C. with any questions (contact information below). They are happy to assist you with your insurance waiver.

PERSONAL

I want to go home. What should I do?

A: Inform your Cultural Office Advisor and your university. If you are planning to return home for a year or less, we will help you to freeze your scholarship, see Undergraduate Academic Requests. If you are planning to study in another country or to return to Kuwait forever, we will help you to withdraw from scholarship. You will also need to work with your university to make sure you are properly dis-enrolled from courses and have the opportunity to return for study, if you intend to.

I lost or never received my health insurance card. What should I do?

A: Please inform your Cultural Office Advisor immediately. We will liaise with the Health Office in D.C. to assist you.

What are my insurance benefits?

Your insurance is provided by a company called CIGNA and administered through the Student Health Office in D.C. Your Cultural Office advisor will unfortunately not be able to assist you with any questions related to your benefits or waiver. You will need to contact the Health Office directly at the contact information below. PLEASE NOTE: The Health Office is in the Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST), so please be sure that you call during their business hours and leave a message if you cannot reach anyone in person.

I got married. How do I enroll my spouse in health insurance and/or dependent payments?

A: Inform your Cultural Office Advisor. We will need a copy of your marriage certificate, your spouse’s I-94, and passport in order to begin health insurance or additional salary payments. Please be advised, your spouse must reside here in the U.S. for 10 out of 12 months a year in order to receive insurance and additional salary payments. Further, married students who are both on a scholarship are not entitled to additional salary payments.

I had a baby. How do I enroll my child in health insurance and/or dependent payments?

A: Inform your Cultural Office Advisor. We will need a copy of your child’s birth certificate, your child’s I-94 (if born abroad), and passport in order to begin health insurance or additional salary payments. The Ministry pays for up to three (3) children, total.

I changed my address, email address or telephone number. What should I do?

A: Inform your Cultural Office Advisor. We will need to update our information and issue a memo to the Health Office so that your insurance information stays correct.

I changed my bank account. What should I do?

Applicable to: MoHE, Equate, PAAET, KPC Students. KPC Employee – contact your advisor. CSC – contact your advisor. PAAET Study Leave – contact your advisor.

A: Inform your Cultural Office Advisor. You will need to provide a VOID check or a letter directly from your bank as proof. We will need to alert accounting to the change prior to salary release. Please try never to change your bank account between the 10th – 20th of each month, or you risk having the money released into your old account.
