students are saying: The journey started
in Jan.2nd 1999 when I moved to the United States to pursue my graduate education.
A great deal of "new" daily-life activities was there for me to learn
and do at my new little place (Laundry, Ironing, Cooking and Mopping to name a
few), along with the struggle to keep up with those exceptionally competitive
fellow graduate students (native and non-native ones) at the university. Days
passed by, and before I knew it, I have begun to enjoy every single aspect of
my life in America. Due to the countless
life experiences and the excellent advances in science and technology in the States,
I would not have chosen to do my graduate work in any place other than here. Having
completed my Masters Degree in 2001 from Lehigh University with a cumulative GPA
of 3.94. In 2002 I was admitted to the doctoral program at Lehigh University where
I am currently. The title of my Ph.D. dissertation is "Mathematical Modeling
of Microchemical Systems". My dissertation defense is scheduled (enshalla)
5 days from the time these lines were written.
Khaled A. Alfadhel , PhD. Candidate, Chemical Engineering, Lehigh University,
PA I
was born in the U.S. for a Kuwaiti father and an Italian mother. I speak four
languages: Arabic, Italian, English and German. I received my Bachelor degree
in civil engineering from Kuwait University and my Master of Science degree from
Oregon State University . As a Middle Eastern female, being away from my home
and family made my life in the US not as simple as I expected. Nevertheless, I
do believe that there is always a way when there is a will. With the continuous
support from my family, friends and beloved husband, I am more able to prevail
over any difficulties that I might face along my way. Praying and having faith
in God are my weapons against depression and loneliness. My
motivation is to accomplish my ambition and return home with my PhD. degree. To
achieve my goal, I had to overcome several obstacles and work my way through many
problems. In the process, I made sure to gain further knowledge by observing and
learning from my surrounding and experiences in the U.S. I have met so many wonderful
people during my stay in the US that had a great impact on my personality and
helped me look at things from so many different perspectives. Living in the US
made me appreciate all small things that I use to take for granted.
